Recognizing that your personal journey is unique,
and tailoring clinical interventions to you.
My Professional Philosophy.
I deeply believe in the innate ability of the human organism to grow, change, and heal.
Sometimes we need help from a professional to facilitate the process of change. Coming to therapy can feel incredibly vulnerable and, therefore, I place a large emphasis on providing a warm, open, accepting, and non-judgemental environment for you to discuss the challenges that you are facing. In the context of a formal assessment, I aim to help children and their families feel comfortable and at ease by explaining the process of assessment and praising children for their efforts during an assessment.
My therapy approach is holistic, foundationally rooted in emotionally-focused therapy and social justice; it is trauma-informed, LGBTQ2S+ aware and affirmative, sex positive, and anti-oppressive. In each session, we will focus on the thoughts, emotions, behaviours, physiological processes, and patterns that have accumulated in your life and contribute to the hardships you are experiencing today. This approach necessarily involves recognizing that your personal journey is unique and tailoring clinical interventions to you, as an individual, vs. using a “cookie cutter” model of therapy. I draw from Emotion-Focused, Cognitive Behavioural, Gestalt, Solution-Focused, Somatic, and Narrative traditions of therapy.
A Little
About Me.
Psychology has always been my passion.
I do this work because it’s who I am.
Do you know that feeling when something just clicks? That’s how I feel about psychology. For as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to people… and people have been drawn to share the depths of their struggles with me. I have this very vivid memory of walking down the hallway of my junior high school with my friend, Elizabeth, and asking her if there was a profession where I could listen to people and help them through their problems. She told me at that time, “That’s what a psychologist does.” Since then, I have been fervently devoted to studying psychology and pursuing my curiosity about human suffering and its impact on our emotional well-being, social relationships, and our ability to learn.
Beyond my extensive educational training, credentials, and professional roles, I have lived through many hardships of my own and have asked the big, tough questions that come with suffering. To this end, I have been actively involved in my own therapy for over 25 years and see great value in the therapeutic process.
